All About Shower Caddies

The basic shower caddy is a hanging basket designed to hold your bath products in one convenient place.  Of course, every company that produces shower caddies puts their own spin on the product.

Brass
A popular material for shower caddies is brass.  Brass shower caddies are great because they do not rust and they are fairly resistant to discoloration.  They are especially popular for bathrooms with other brass accents.  Most people want some consistency in the look of their bathroom, so if you have brass fixtures (sink faucet, tub and shower fixtures, even door and window hardware) look into these stylish and useful designs.

Chrome
Like brass, chrome is rust resistant.  It lends a sophisticated and sleek look to any room.  While these caddies (along with brass models) are a bit pricier than others (often in the $25 to $30 range), they look great and help to create a cohesive aesthetic for the room.

Plastic
The most inexpensive caddies around are usually white plastic.  These products serve their purpose fine.  You can find ones with large shelf space if you tend to have large bottles of shampoo and/or conditioner and many have hooks for loofah sponges or other products.  Plastic caddies will not last as long as a metal model, but with how inexpensive they are, this may not be too much of an issue.

Coated Wire
Another common material is the coated wire.  This, as the name suggests, is a metal wire with a layer of plastic wrapped around it.  They are sturdier than the average all plastic caddies, but there is a chance the plastic coating will crack in time.  If this happens, the metal wire may rust and cause the plastic to crack and peel even more.  But, as with all plastic models, coated wire caddies are inexpensive.

The little extras
Not everyone has the same bath time needs.  Make sure you take a quick inventory of the products you have around your shower or tub so that when it comes time to pick out a caddie, you know just what to look for.

A newer design idea is to provide inverted bottle holders.  These are great because it keeps the shampoo or conditioner at the cap even if there is very little left in the bottle.  You may also want a caddie that provides a small shelf for bar soap.
