The hangers, which resembled the shape of a flying bird, were used for the large skirts and bustles that were common in the time.
Hangers have since evolved into folding travel hangers, spring coiled wire hangers, and hangers that allow for belts and other accessories. Now, as in the past, hangers are meant to shape and contour the clothing while also allowing for convenience.
