Ironing Board Styles

Iron Your Shirts In Style

Most innovations in regard to ironing boards fit in two different categories. Either the size of the board or the manner in which it is stored has changed. Let's first take a look at those that opt for changes in the manner of storage.

Built-in ironing boards are common alternatives to lugging big old ironing boards in and out of the closet. They can be mounted on laundry room walls or doors. Some incorporate cabinets to store an iron, starch and other items that can come in handy while ironing. Construction of the cabinet of the built in ironing boards vary from generic looking white melamine to distinctive hard wood units. You can match the built in ironing board to your already existing cabinetry. Some of these also include wardrobes with garment bars where clothing on hangers can be stored.

Newer style laundry carts are becoming a popular item and they include a number of handy items. They include hampers where clean clothes can be stored within reach while ironing. There are also drawers where you can store clothes neatly after they have been ironed. Another handy accessory is a garment bar where shirts, pants, and dresses can be hung on hangers after the ironing has been done.

These ironing boards work quite well at making more efficient the time consuming task of ironing loads of wash. Units that allow for storage are highly recommended because all too often laundry rooms can become overwhelmed with clothing. If you fear that the ironing board will become soiled and unusable long before the cabinet or the cart is ready for the waste bin, remember that new ironing board covers are always available.

Smaller Styles
Unfortunately for some, built-in ironing boards can take up precious space that may not be as available to some as it is to others. For these folks there are smaller ironing boards that allow for easy quick storage.

Most of these small boards emulate larger styles but for a few differences. These boards either have fixed legs or collapsible legs. Some fixed and collapsible leg models can be set upon a table or countertops. Some smaller collapsible leg ironing boards are free standing.

The advantage of smaller boards is that they are better at ironing sleeves and pant legs.
