Waterbed sheets, heaters, conditioners and more.
If you've just purchased your first waterbed, you need these accessories.
If you're shopping for waterbed accessories, then you're probably already acquainted with the unique comfort a waterbed can offer. But what you might be less familiar with are some of the unique waterbed accessories you can use to enhance your sleeping experience.
Waterbed sheets
How difficult can it be to buy waterbed sheets' You'll find out if you come home having purchased sheets for a standard King sized bed only to discover that they're nearly a foot too short for your King sized waterbed.
The packaging on waterbed sheets might use the same names as conventional sheets, such as King, Queen, and Single, but there's a definite difference. Waterbed sheets are often longer, because hard-sided waterbeds are, in fact, 10 inches longer than regular beds.
You can also avoid feeling out of your depth when shopping for waterbed sheets by checking just that: the depth of your waterbed mattress. Getting all of your waterbed measurements before you shop for waterbed sheets will save you time and money.
Waterbed heater
Unless you enjoy sleeping on cold water, you're also going to need a waterbed heater. A typical waterbed heater is placed beneath the waterbed mattress and safety liner, and uses a vinyl or rubber heating pad adjusted by an attached control unit.
Solid state digital waterbed heaters are particularly popular. These heaters are intended for use with hard-sided or wood frame waterbeds. ('Solid state' refers to an absence of moving parts.)
Waterbed conditioner
If you've never owned a waterbed before, the idea of needing waterbed conditioner might seem a bit odd. Waterbed conditioner is for conditioning the water in your bed, not the bed itself.
Waterbed conditioners are algaecides or biocides that help prevent the buildup of bacteria or algae inside your mattress. Proper, regular use of waterbed conditioner will help avoid waterborne allergies and odor issues. You should add waterbed conditioner every time you fill your mattress, as well as an additional bottle every six months or as needed.
Waterbed mattress cover
Some waterbed accessories can be both functional and decorative. Waterbed mattress covers, for example, are made to zip around hard framed waterbed mattresses, giving them the appearance of soft framed waterbed mattresses.
But appearances aren't everything. Waterbed mattress covers can also provide extra protection for your waterbed mattress. Even better, covers help trap heat, which means less use of your waterbed heater and reduced energy bills.
Electric waterbed pump
The one obvious disadvantage of owning a waterbed is having to drain it and refill it with water. Electric waterbed pumps are essential for waterbed owners who move often or who like to frequently recycle the water in their mattresses.
A typical electric waterbed pump should come with a reinforced hose, waterbed conditioner, and a spare impeller.
