A shower caddy is a great organizing tool.  While there are many different specific styles, your basic shower caddy is a basket that hangs from the shower nozzle and which holds many of your common bathing products.

Many tubs and showers are not designed with sufficient shelf space for products.  Older claw foot tubs, for example, provide little or no room.  In these situations you wind up with your shampoo, conditioner, body wash, bar soap, and all other products scattered around the tub and sometimes leaning precariously against the wall.  How often have you heard the startling clunk of a plastic bottle hitting the porcelain bottom of the tub?  

Shower caddies are the solution to this common problem. 

The new styles

There have been some recent advances in shower caddy design.  Non-rusting metals such as brass and stainless steel are commonly used materials for these items.  They can take the day to day moisture without any discoloration.  While bit more expensive than plastic or plastic-covered caddies, they are attractive and durable.

Another recent design involves inverted shampoo and conditioner holders.  In the same way that wine racks hold bottles at an angle to keep the cork moist, these caddies keep the product where you need it-at the cap.  This way even if you have very little left in the bottle, you can easily squeeze it out.  Sure beats trying to balance the bottle upside down and waiting for the thick liquid to drip down.

If your shower head will not accommodate a hanging caddy (the popular "sunflower" showerhead, for example, is too large for some caddies to fit around), there are caddies equipped with suction cups that affix to a tile wall or the porcelain of the tub.

All in one

Many shower caddies are sold in packages with a variety of products included.  Some of these products may be body wash, moisturizer, loofa sponges, et cetera.  This is a great way to take care of multiple needs at once, as well as a nice reason to try out some new products.
