Don't ruin the aesthetic
How you mount your plasma TV is just as important as where you mount it. The smooth and sleek lines of your plasma TV can be ruined if there is a tangled mess of wires leading up to it. Two basic options are available for routing the wires of your plasma TV – in the wall or outside the wall.
Routing wires inside the wall
Hiding the wires to your plasma TV in the wall can be difficult but certainly creates the most appealing look. Keep these tips in mind to effectively, and safely, hide your TV wires inside the wall.
Select the right TV wall mount. Some plasma TV wall mounts are made specifically to accommodate wires that will be coming directly out of the wall into the TV. You'll need one that provides for extra spacing in between the wall and the back of your TV.
Try to avoid using an exterior wall to mount your TV. These walls have insulation and extra support, making running wire more difficult.
Get a copy of your local building and fire code and make sure to use it. These will tell you what types of cable you need and how they should be rated. For safe installation, this step is essential. These guides may also have suggestions for wall TV mounts.
Don't run the power cable inside the wall by yourself. If you want the power cable hidden as well, a licensed electrician will be needed. An electrician can install a recessed AC receptacle in the exact location needed and certain wall TV mounts are made exactly for this purpose.
Routing Wires outside the wall
If you don't want to start cutting holes in your wall but still don't want the sight of a bunch of wires running up to your TV, there are ways to hide or disguise them.
Many TV wall mounts also include cable management raceways that attach to a wall or baseboard. These keep wires hidden and can often be painted to match your home decor. They can also be purchased separately.
Place an obstacle under the TV. A book case or end table can be an attractive way to camouflage wires and cable.
Create molding to use as a cover for your wires. This can then be painted to match the wall and can be created out of small strips of wood.
