Pet Bed Price Guide

Just like their styles, pet beds come in a variety of prices

It's a common problem – your family dog or cat as taken over your bed or couch, leading to, at best, uncomfortable sleeping for you and yours. Selecting a pet bed that your pet will like and use can be a tricky task and should be treated with some consideration – especially considering how much some pet beds can cost.

Before selecting your pet's bed, be sure to observe how your pet sleeps and the places it prefers to sleep in. You'll want to get a pet bed that accommodates how your pet will use it to ensure that it doesn't become a waste of money and effort. With that in mind, here's how much you can reasonably expect to spend on a quality pet bed.

Budget pet beds - $25-75

Basic pet beds provide comfort at a reasonable price. These beds are great for the budget conscious owner or as a supplement to a larger or more permanent bed. These pet beds typically are a simple stuffed mattress or pad but some versions also include a frame that contains the mattress. These don't have any of the heating or cooling functions and often come in plainer designs.

Moderate pet beds - $75-150

Middle of the road pet beds often include some of the features for higher end pet beds, like heating, cooling, and memory foam, but may not be constructed as solidly as higher priced models. On the same note, these beds are typically made better than cheaper beds and can be expected to last longer with normal use. These beds also usually have some sort of enclosure that contains the actual bed.

Luxury pet beds -- $150 and up

The top end of the pet bed market is a robust one. Along with beds that heat, cool, and make use of memory foam, luxury pet beds can also be made to look quite elegant. Porcelain pet beds are available in the $400 range while brass, four-poster beds can also be found for similar prices.

To make sure your pet uses its bed after you've invested in it, keep these tips in mind;

Never use the bed as punishment and if your pet goes to bed in it on its own, reward with affection or treats.

Let your pet make its bed its own. Pets may lick or rub dirt on their bed but don't rush to clean – it's only a way of marking it as their own.
