Waterbed Parts

Read below to find out more

Waterbed furniture typically consists of two basic types – hard side beds and soft side beds. Although the components for the two are somewhat different, they are all made up of the same basic parts. Waterbeds are usually constructed out of vinyl or similar material.

Early waterbeds had only one water chamber, which meant a great deal of wave action could be felt when they were disturbed. Waterbeds eventually evolved to use different methods for reducing the waves. Modern waterbeds use a mixture of interconnected air and water chambers to achieve this effect. Modern waterbeds are also normally heated. The temperature can be set to your personal preference by using a thermostat.

Hard side waterbeds

Like all waterbeds, hard side waterbeds have a waterbed mattress but also include a waterbed frame. These consist of a plastic or vinyl-like bladder that is filled with water. The waterbed mattress sits on a wood platform that has rails running along the side that contain the mattress. Hard side waterbed frames often incorporate drawers underneath and can be fairly elaborate.

Soft side waterbeds

A soft side waterbed mattress looks very much like a conventional spring mattress. The waterbed mattress is contained in a fabric casing which sits on a stronger than normal metal frame. These beds often fit in with existing bedroom furniture easier than hard side waterbeds.

Waterbed accessories

Along with the frame, mattress, and heater, there are a number of other accessories for use with your waterbed.

Massagers – these provide heat and vibration to help relieve aches and pains.

Waterbed mattress duvets and covers – These can add a fashionable look and a protective cover at the same time.

Rail cap combinations – Use rail caps to add color and texture to your waterbed frame.

Waterbed conditioner, cleaner, and tablets – These purify your water and help to relieve any smells.

Waterbed care kits – If you get a leak in your waterbed mattress, use a repair kit to patch the leak.

Waterbed pumps – When draining a fiber or baffled filled mattress, a pump can be used. These are usually self-priming and portable.

Fill and drain kits – These are used when filling or draining your waterbed mattress. These include conditioner as well as a burper and the required valves.
