All About Medicine Cabinets

Maintaining your bathroom is a difficult task. Most modern bathrooms suffer the same plight - not enough storage space. Thankfully, many bathrooms today are still outfitted with handy medicine cabinets to store are your small toiletries that create clutter on your surfaces. The problem with most medicine cabinets, however, is that their old, decrepit appearance can really suck the life out of your bathroom decor. Luckily, many of these nasty old medicine cabinets can be easily replaced with newer, more stylish medicine cabinets. You'll be amazed at the difference it makes.

Shapes and sizes

It's all fairly simple. Most medicine cabinets come in rectangular shapes which are positioned horizontally or vertically above your sink. The amenities are a different story altogether. You can choose between medicine cabinets with partially exposed shelves and mirrored or framed doors. Though the majority of medicine cabinets are designed to be used for smaller toiletries such as toothbrushes, deodorant, floss, mouthwash, makeup, soaps, lotions and the like, there are, indeed, much larger options manufactured to hold larger bathroom objects such as hair driers and electric shavers.

Where to put it?

If you are thinking about adding a medicine cabinet to a bathroom does not already contain one, there a few things you want to keep in mind. Although most medicine cabinets are typically positioned above the sink area, logistical issues don't always allow that to be the case. Perhaps you already have a large, flat vanity mirror occupying that space. What now? Well, there's nothing written in stone saying that your medicine cabinet has to be placed above your sink. It can go in virtually any spot in the bathroom where it will fit. Some medicine cabinets can be found above the toilet or in the shower area. It's entirely up to you. Just be sure that before you install your medicine cabinet in a particular area that you practice opening and closing its door to ensure that it will be easily accessible.

Classic and contemporary styles

With so many styles to choose from it should be a breeze to find one that matches your space and your decor. You can choose from modern, traditional, country, or antique styles. Basically, just try to match your home's decor. If you have a lot of modern furniture, choose a sleek, metal medicine cabinet to accent it. If you have more of a country home or traditional style, choose from various wood finishes.
