Storage Shelves

Storage shelves can be made out of just about anything, including wood, plastic, and metal. Although shelving units can be purchased at furniture stores, many people opt to make their own storage shelves out of plywood or timber.

Storage shelves can be as plain or as fancy as you'd like them to be. If the shelf is located in a high-traffic area, such as living room or kitchen, many opt for shelves to be constructed out of a high-quality material, such as wood. But if you plan on setting up storage shelves in a closet or in a garage, many choose cheaper, lower quality materials.

Before you purchase a storage shelf, it's smart to know what type of items you plan to place on it. In general, heavy materials, such as appliances or large quantities of books, shouldn't be placed on plastic shelves because they may fall or warp over time.
