Saving time: the latest in dryers

Just as washers continue to evolve, so, too, do dryers. Dryers may be simpler in function than washing machines, but they have nearly just as many bonus features as their more complicated washing counterparts. Here, we'll take a look at some of the latest dryer innovations—and you’ll find that, just as architecture has seen a push for sustainable design, the laundry world has seen a similar push for conservation.

Whirlpool's Duet Sport Laundry Care System

Whirlpool's Duet Sport Laundry Care System is a washer-dryer set that boasts energy-saving wash and dry cycles. The front-load machines each have unique features; while the washer conserves water, the dryer dries clothes in a significantly reduced amount of time. Duet Sport Dryers come in both gas-fueled and electric models, and both will dry a full load of laundry in just more than a half hour. Called the AccelerCare Drying System, the dryer's short drying time enables you to "keep pace with your washer"—when doing multiple loads of laundry, you can dry one by the time the washer finishes the next. The Duet Sport Dryer has numerous additional features, including timed and automatic cycles, temperature settings, a child lock, and optional pedestals to raise your dryer to whatever height you desire.

GE’s Frontload Dryer

Made to pair with the GE Frontload Washer, the sleek GE Frontload Dryer, debuted this year, features an oversized drum with a durable interior. While the Frontload Washer uses less water than other washers, the Frontload Dryer's size enables you to dry more clothes in a single load, thus saving you time. The dryer also features moisture and temperature settings and a de-wrinkle cycle.

Maytag's Neptune Drying Center

Though it hit the market two years ago, Maytag's Neptune Drying Center is still one of the most unique dryers available. The Neptune Drying Center’s two-in-one design features a drying cabinet mounted to the main dryer; clothes hung in or laid on the cabinet’s racks are dried with hot, dry air. The cabinet's design and drying process results in clothes that are less wrinkled than those dried on open-air drying racks. The dryer's tumbler and cabinet also have a built-in odor remover and special drying cycles to refresh delicate and dry-clean-only clothing, features Maytag says will save you more than $200 on annual dry cleaning costs. Additionally, the dryer’s tumbler, quieted by sound-silencing mechanisms, is three times larger than traditional dryer tumblers.
