Decorate and protect with a duvet cover.
A giant pillow case
When you want to change the look of an existing comforter, or protect a comforter, a duvet cover is the answer. Duvet covers work like a giant pillow case and usually have a button or other enclosure at one end. The covers can be easily removed and washed, so they protect your comforter, which would be much harder to launder every week!
Stop that down!
Because down filled comforters are especially hard to launder, a duvet cover is typically used to protect it. Higher thread count luxury duvet covers help keep any down that might escape the comforter from making a complete get away. Satin, Egyptian cotton and velvet duvet covers are examples of high thread count luxury duvet covers.
Quick change
Even though duvet covers are generally used to cover down comforters, people use them to change the look of existing comforters, too. Buy two covers and change them for a new look every month or season. A flannel duvet cover for winter and a floral designer duvet cover for spring. It is an easy way to create a different look for your bedroom ensemble without paying an arm and a leg!
Create your own
Duvet covers are easy to make and can be created from any type of fabric or by simply sewing two flat sheets together. Sheets come in beautiful patterns and fabrics and may be a cheaper alternative to buying fabric or a ready made cover. Another inexpensive alternative is to buy discount or clearance duvet covers online.
Easy as 1, 2, 3
It is easy to insert a comforter into a duvet cover once you know how to do it! Here are some helpful hints:
1. Run your arm up the inside of the duvet cover and push out the top corners. These corners will be the handles you use for pulling the comforter into the duvet cover.
2. Grip the two top corners on the outside of the duvet cover.
3. Push the corners forward from outside until the duvet cover is inside out and draped over your arms.
4. Grip the two corners of the duvet on the outside of the cover.
5. Holding the comforter firmly through the duvet cover, shake the duvet cover down over the comforter.
What's hot?
Duvet covers come in all sizes and styles. Kids duvet covers are available in many fun patterns created for the younger set. Denim, tie-dye and faux fur duvet covers are popular with teens. More sophisticated patterns like jacquard, paisley and designer duvet covers are most frequently sold in the queen or king size. Oversize duvet covers that fit California king bedding are also available in many popular patterns.
