Coverlets are similar to comforters, in that they only cover the top of the bed and do not reach to the floor like a bedspread. However, they tend to be lighter in weight than a comforter and are often the thickness of a quilt.
During colder months when a comforter is preferred, coverlets still make a great decorative piece in your bedroom. You can place them at the end of the bed, or hang them on a quilt rack.
Coverlets can be made out of cotton, silk, or other fibers. What makes coverlets unique and unlike other bedding is that they usually are decorated with ornate or intricate patterns. Many include a complex weave, embroidery, patchwork, or other detailed ornamentation.
