Duvet covers are placed on top of a bed and are similar to comforters. The main difference between the two is that duvets are warmer, due to their filling. A bed with a duvet often only uses a sheet beneath it, no additional blankets. Duvets were originally used in Europe and made out of Eider, a type of duck down known for its warmth. Still popular in Europe, the duvet has only become a staple in American bedrooms in the twentieth century.
Duvet covers are often made out of cotton. Because the cover can be taken off the duvet, they are extremely versatile pieces. If you frequently change your bedroom decor, the duvet cover can be easily replaced by another and used again at a later time. Duvet covers come in a wide range of styles and patterns, and are made to fit different sizes of beds.
