Before washcloths were marketed and sold, people used bits of cotton and other cloths in order to clean themselves while bathing.
Washcloths are small in size, about the size of a fingertip towel, and are made out of a material such as cotton or terrycloth, that absorbs water well. Wash cloths differ from other types of bathroom towels in that they are used while wet, rather than as a drying device.
Washcloths can also be used outside of the bath for washing the face or hands. They generally are placed on a towel rack to dry after use.
If you have a baby or small child, then you probably know the importance of the washcloth! They are the primary cleaning aide for washing babies. Many washcloths designed for children have fun patterns, designs, or embroidered pictures.
