A treadmill is a low-impact machine that allows you to walk, jog, or run in place right in your own home. A running belt (similar to a conveyor belt) provides the surface for your workout. There are two main types of treadmills: manual and motorized.
With a manual treadmill, the movement and friction of your feet move the belt. One benefit of manual treadmills is that they are inexpensive and easily portable. Motorized treadmills may offer a better, more intense workout that their manual counterparts. The belt moves under its own power, the speed being controlled by you, and you move in order to "keep up" with the belt. These machines can be quite expensive and unwieldy, but for a permanent home gym, they can also be a great investment.
