Recycling bins are useful compartments that help you to sort, organize and hold items that you plan to recycle. Although a standard bin works well, there are many other options available that you may want to consider, including indoor and outdoor bins, and bins designed to hold particular items.
Here are some different types:
Stackable shelf recycling bins are an extremely popular, efficient, and effective tool to help you. Bin units can contain up to four or five shelves, making it easy for you to sort items quickly. Many stackable bins also contain open compartments for easy accessibility. Some bin units contain wheels, which makes bringing your items to a car or to the curb much easier. Most stackable bins are made out of heavy plastic and are relatively inexpensive.
Recycling bin/can crusher combo is great for aluminum soda cans. The can crusher is built into the lid and works by hand (it is not electric). Simply place the can inside the crushing contraption and press down. Cans become a third of their size, and the bin can hold up to 400 of them. This unit works well in kitchens or garages, and is a perfect space saver!
Recycling bin carts prove an effective way to both hold and transport recyclable materials. The cart allows you to stack bins vertically, which may save space in a garage or closet. Carts are made of steel and contain smooth rolling wheels. The versatility of the cart also enables you to use it for transportation of items other than recyclable materials.
Newspaper recycling bins are great for storing newspapers before they are put out for recycling. These bins are made out of heavy plastic, which is both durable and waterproof (if you plan on keeping your bin outside). Most newspaper recycling bins also come with twine, which can be used to bind newspapers when the bin is full.
A footnote
Even if your recycling program requires you to use specific bins that they have designated, you can still use other types of bins inside your home or garage. Then, on your designated recycling day, you can transfer items into the assigned bin. This is particularly useful when dealing with items that may be sticky, such as soda cans.
