Air hockey was invented by an avid hockey fan and engineer for Brunswick Billiards in the 1970s. The combination of Bob Lemeiux's passion and work turned out to be a match made in heaven. After the game was developed, it quickly became a favorite in bars and pools halls worldwide.
The puck (a lightweight, round piece of plastic) is held ever so slightly above the playing surface by hundreds of tiny holes that expel a cushion of air, reducing any friction between the puck and the table surface. This allows the puck to move quickly and unimpeded across the table. Each player uses a plastic mallet to try to knock the puck into the opponent's goal, a thin slot at the end of the table.
In addition to bars and gaming establishments, air hockey has also become popular in home game rooms. If you are looking for a great addition to your at-home fun, click on these great articles about air hockey.
