Classic Board Games

Always fun

Board games have been enjoyed by children and adults for many years. Long before video games were invented, families sat around the dinner table, enjoying classic board games like Monopoly, Risk, and Scrabble.

Even in today's culture with video games, computers, and hundreds of channels of TV, people still find classic board games to be a fun and relaxing way to bring their family or friends together.

The last decade has seen literally hundreds of new board games come and go. The majority of board games stick around for a few years and then gradually phase out of production, while a few of the better ones remain. Regardless, there are a few dozen classic board games that have been around for decades, and will still be played by our kids' children in the years to come.

These classic board games remain in print year after year because of their innovative ideas and fun playability. What separates a good board game from a great board game is its ability to entertain both children and adults no matter how many times it's played.

Monopoly

Monopoly is a classic board game, and a great example of one that's stood the test of time. In Monopoly, players take on the role of millionaire investors and realtors, spending money to make money. The game's use of play money, or "Monopoly Money," is a fun way for people to pretend like they are gaining and losing wealth without actually risking the real thing.

Risk

Another classic board game, Risk is one of the most detailed strategy war games that has ever been made. Players take on the role of high-ranking generals, commanding their armies to gradually conquer to land all across the world. It's not uncommon for Risk games to last for many hours, or even days, in some cases.

Scrabble

The classic board game Scrabble is one of the more educational games made, the goal to create words from small wooden tiles with letters printed on them. Part of Scrabble's appeal is that you'll never play the same game twice, as the entire English language can be used to play the game.

Clue

Clue is another popular classic board game that has been played for decades. In this game, each player takes on the role of a visitor to a mansion during the night of a murder. The goal of the game is to solve the crime, discovering who the killer is, what weapon they used, and what room the murder took place in. Despite the grisly theme, it's considered a game for all ages. The game focuses on detective work rather than violence.
