Concrete Finishing 175

Concrete Finishing

Typically, concrete finishing can be done in three different ways. For interiors, the finish is smooth and is created by running a flat trowel over the top. This concrete finish is the most common.

For outside, where a smooth surface can quickly become a safety hazard, a "brush-textured" finish can be applied. This finish creates a rougher surface that provides traction and removes water. The least common finish is an exposed aggregate finish. This finish is created by exposing the gravel used to create the concrete and provides a great deal of traction.

There are also variations in concrete finishing. Stamped concrete can be used as a finish and is a solid, long lasting design alternative. A "knockdown" finish is another style that can be made to appear like tile or flagstone. A knockdown finish is created by spraying a mix over the concrete and using a trowel to knock it down.
