Window Screens

Before opening up all your windows, or taking down storm windows and installing window screens, be sure to check all the screens carefully. It only takes a small hole on just one window screen to ensure a season of slapping flies and mosquitoes.

Window screen holes that are small (1/4 inch or smaller) can be patched with just a bit of clear glue. Fixing larger holes is a little more complicated, but still fairly easy; simply get a piece of replacement screen and weave it, with the existing screen threads, onto the original window screen.

If the window screen hole is larger than your fist, the best bet is to replace it with a new window screen. Screens should also be cleaned during the spring to remove any harmful dust or other allergens.
