All About Wireless Door Bells

If the bell is rockin' don’t bother knockin'

The possibilities

I had a friend growing up whose parents had the coolest door bell. It played Beethoven’s Fifth, which was used in a big disco song at the time. I can remember thinking that playing a tune was much cooler than the “ding dong” noise of my parent's bell. Doorbells that allow you to pick a tune are almost always the wireless type. In a way, they are a forerunner of the customizable ring tone.

If you are not looking for anything fancy but want a replacement bell that works nicely, then the Nutone LA 203WH plug in wireless chime might be model for you. This wireless door bell has a loud but pleasant chime and retails at less than $20.

A good looking, but still affordable, wireless chime comes to you from St. Lucia Wireless. It has a natural oak cover and very attractive satin gold external chimes. This model retails for just under $35.

If you want a little more novelty in your door chime, checkout Dimango Carlon wireless door chimes. They have ten different tones including,

1. Dong

2. Ding Dong
3. Westminster Chime
4. Star Spangled Banner
5. Hail, Hail, the Gang's All Here
6. Jingle Bells
7. Auld Lang Syne
8. Dixie
9. The Yellow Rose of Texas
10. Happy Birthday
11. Beethoven's Fifth
12. Joy To The World
13. Take Me Out to the Ballgame
These multi-tune door bells sell for just under $50

One of my favorites is The Zen Doorbell from china. This doorbell has a soothing tone and is modeled after traditional Zen Chimes. They are sold for about $150.00.

Special needs

Another aspect of wireless door bells that make them unique and a good alternative to traditional door bells is their ability to adapt to special needs applications. The hearing impaired can find a number of advantages when choosing a wireless door chime.

With wireless chimes, the bell/door equation can be transcended. The bell itself can be present in any room where the homeowner is and there can be multiple chime units. These units can also be adjusted to volumes in excess of those available on traditional chimes. There are also pager systems that allow the user to attach the device to the waistband of their pants. Or choose wireless door bells that do not ring at all, but are connected to a light system for those who do not have the ability to hear a chime at any volume.
