Electrical switches, although used everyday, all day, by everyone, are often taken for granted. The simple act of flipping on a light switch nearly always produces the desired effect. When the light doesn't come on, the cause is usually assumed to be a bad bulb and most of us wouldn't know what to do if that wasn't the case.

Electrical switches do go bad though and knowing how to change one can be a skill that comes in handy frequently around the house. Simple light switches, as most homes have, aren't complicated to change and can be a great beginner project for the handy man or woman.

Before changing the electrical switch, be sure to test the switch first to make sure it is the source of the problem. A continuity tester can be used to test the switch and is the best to make sure the switch is faulty.
