Choosing the right tile for your home begins with the room. Tile flooring varies in both hardness and porosity, so the kind of traffic it's going to see in your home is key'your bathroom, for example, would be best outfitted with light traffic-grade tile with an impervious, or least absorbent, porosity. Entryways, on the other hand, are excellent places for medium to extra-heavy traffic-grade tile with slightly higher porosity.
Beyond hardness and absorbency, tile types are seemingly endless: brick, cement, ceramic, porcelain, mosaic, quarry, Mexican, terrazzo, terra cotta. Artisan-crafted, painted tiles and colored tile adhesives further enhance the tile palette.
Tile is installed with mortar or grout, and installation can be tricky. However, as long as you make sure your tiles are applied to a secure subsurface and are cut to fit your space, you're in for a beautiful end product.
