Maintain your candle wall sconces in a few easy steps
Wall sconces make a particularly elegant addition to any home design, but candle wall sconces provide an even warmer and comforting illumination of your space. However, candle smoke, over time, can cause discoloration of walls and ceilings. Some candle wall sconces are equipped with "smoke bells" which diffuse the smoke and prevent discoloration. Here are some other tips that will help keep your house safe from danger and damage while using candle sconces.
Remember to choose candles that are the appropriate size for your particular wall sconce. Candles that are too big or, conversely, too small, run the risk of toppling over and falling to the floor with just the slightest breeze or brush from the sleeve of your coat. Be sure that your candles are securely placed within the sconces.
Choose candles that are non drip or drip resistant from wax. Melting and dripping wax can cause candles to transform their shape, possibly making them unstable and furthering the risk of them falling over and causing a fire. In addition, you might even consider choosing short, stubby candles over long, slender candles for reasons of stability.
Make sure that your wall sconces are an adequate distance away from the wall they are mounted on. Candles placed too close to the wall run the risk of overheating wallpaper or painting and increase the risk of fire. Also, try not to place paintings, picture frames, tapestries, drapes, or any other potentially hazardous materials near your candle sconces.
Try not to leave wall sconce candles burning for too long without supervision. Be sure blow them out or extinguish them in some manner before leaving your home or going to bed for the night. Unattended candles are one of the major causes of home fires.
Try to choose wall candle sconces that have "smoke bells" which will prevent discoloration of walls and ceilings.
Clean dried wax out of your candle sconces before replacing the candles.
If you follow these simple tips, your candle wall sconce maintenance should be a piece of cake, and your home should be safe from potentially deadly fire hazards.
