Lamps and lanterns. Bring a quaint, old-world feel to your home's landscape and light doorways and house numbers with a freestanding lamp or wall-mounted lantern. Path lighting. Keep guests in line with walkway lights; generally sold in kits, path lights are staked into the ground where they connect to a main cable plugged into a power source. Globes. Globe lights offer soft, diffused light cast in every direction, making them perfect for patios or gathering spaces.

Keep in mind that outdoor decorative lighting is not to double as security lighting; while it does create mood, it also creates a lot of dimly lit or shaded areas.
