Before the wonders of electricity, pianists had to rely on mere candles to provide lighting in order to play. Even though dimly lit piano keys never prevented great pianists from composing their masterpieces, a little extra light wouldn't have hurt.

Today, elegant piano lamps are used for two reasons: to provide even more reliable light to the pianist and to create a beautiful, ambient glow that audiences can enjoy. Piano lamps today are a must-have during recitals to shed light on piano keys as well as music sheets.

Types of piano lamps

Adjustable piano lamps

A handy lamp indeed, the adjustable piano lamp generally uses counter-weighted arms to enable their positional setting in accordance with available lighting. Many adjustable piano lamps feature a weighted base made of marble or some other heavy material to prevent the lamp from accidentally tipping over.

Grand piano lamps

Grand Piano Lamps are tall, vertical floor lamps that sit next to the piano. They typically use counter-balanced, adjustable arms to direct light on the piano. A truly bold piano lamp.

Clip-on piano lamps

A clip-on piano lamp goes one step further by being able to clip itself on the sheet music. Because of this versatility, you can position them exactly where you need illumination. Almost like a hybrid of a common piano lamp and an adjustable lamp, these clip-ons combine functionality with easy portability.
