A light in the darkness
The purpose of home security lights is to ward off potential criminals, who generally work in the dark. A security light can expose a person lurking around your home: either to you, or your neighbors. Security lights also keep family members safe, as the lights enable you to get into your house safely.
Here are some reasons why we think they're great:
Security lights don't just protect your family, they also protect your home. Perpetrators are much less likely to engage in acts of vandalism, such as spray painting, breaking windows, damaging shrubs or flowers, or throwing materials (such as the popular egg) at your house if it is properly equipped with security lights.
In turn, security lights prevent you from having to deal with costly damage and cleanup. Not only can this be expensive, but if others see the damage, it looks as though your residential area is an unsafe place.
Security lighting is cost effective. High quality lighting systems don't have to be expensive! Motion activated lights, for example, come on when activated by movement, which means that they aren't running all night. They also serve as a trigger, letting you know there is something outside.
Security lights come in a variety of types and styles. Dusk to dawn lights, for instance, shine all night long. Motion detector and floodlights with built-in sensors come on only when triggered. Lights can be a familiar yellow, or bright white, such as the light produced by mercury and halogen lamps.
Some security lighting systems can be controlled by remote control. Say, for example, you hear an unexpected noise outside. A remote control can turn on all your outside lights, which can startle and ward off predators, giving you peace of mind.
Did you know that people are more likely to report criminal activity if it is viewed by a security light? That's right: even if you aren't at home, the chances of your home being kept safe are higher than if you didn't have a security light.
A footnote of light in the darkness
Although some critics of home security lighting systems would argue that a light source assists a criminal in his or her activities, that's not necessarily the case. A much higher percentage of would-be intruders are warded off by security lights, especially if he or she sets one off accidentally.
