When IKEA Isn't Good Enough
Expect to see curvaceous and sleek faucet styles when shopping for new trim. The ornate and knobby embellishments of the early nineties have given way to shapes inspired by IKEA products and high-profile, minimalist designers. And while classic bathroom fixtures reminiscent of traditional American or Victorian styles are still in production, manufacturers are responding to prevailing trends by keeping the shapes but rounding out edges. Kohler, Delta, and Pegasus are all brands that offer great looking styles for most budgets.
Even discount bathroom faucets are adopting the practice. Budget buyers have the freedom to be just as choosy with their selections, as innovative designs and state-of-the-art performance become widely accessible. Previously, sporting a vintage or antique look in your bathroom meant forfeiting efficacy or a lot of money. Now you can have hip bathroom hardware at a reasonable premium.
But Wait, There's More
The technical aspects of bathroom faucets are rather mundane, but can help you make a decision when the time comes to buy. If your sink is already fitted for a widespread, where the handles and spout are different pieces, a narrow centerset may not be wide enough to cover the holes.
Usually though, with bathroom sinks, the holes are no more than four inches apart and can accommodate both mini-widespreads and centersets. The real decision is whether you want two handles or a single handle unit. The choice is mostly aesthetic, but seriously, how many times have we all spun handles in vain, trying to remember which way is 'off.'
