Shower Filters

Clean doesn't stand for healthy

Because of the chemical contaminants found in our tap water, showering is one of the worst things you can do for your health! Drinking tap water exposes the body to a high number of contaminants including lead from a home's copper pipes and pesticides from drainage runoff.

How bad can it be?

The chlorine that is used to disinfect city water supplies poses a grave danger to our health and wellness. Among other things, Chlorine has been linked to Cancer, lung problems and premature aging of the skin.

However, chlorine is the easiest harmful contaminant to remove from tap water. By using point-of-use filtration like shower filters, the amount of contamination in all areas of the home, from the water to the air, drops exponentially.

There are two primary types of technology for shower filter: carbon filters and KDF. Carbon filters are the less effective method of shower water filtration because they hold the chlorine in the filter. As the filter ages and the chlorine levels build up, the compound can begin leaking into the water.

KDF filters, on the other hand, chemically change chlorine into a benign compound through an electro-chemical process.

Shower filters are as simple to install as a new shower head and come in many different sizes and designs. They may not be pretty, but your health is worth more than the visual flair of your home's shower.

More reasons to make the switch

Here are a few reasons why shower filters are an important addition to any home water filtration system:

More chlorine is absorbed by the body through showering than through drinking tap water, 2/3's of the body's exposure to be exact.

The EPA has found that households in the United States have elevated levels of chloroform in the air. The presence of this dangerous gas is caused by the release of chlorine from shower water. The steam from showering contains up to 50 times the concentration of chlorine and chloroform than in liquid form.

Unlike drinking the water, where many of the harmful contaminants are filtered by our kidneys, gaseous chlorine has magnified effects when mainlined directly into the lungs. Gaseous chlorine byproducts are a suspected cause of bronchitis, asthma and even lung cancer.

Studies of breast cancer victims in the United States have found that levels of organochlorines (byproducts of chlorine) were 50-60% higher than women not afflicted with breast cancer. Chlorine and its chloroform byproduct have also been known to cause lung and rectal cancer.

Chlorine robs skin and hair of natural oils. Without these essential oils, the skin cells degrade at an accelerated pace that hastens the aging process. Showering with chlorinated water can leave skin dry, itching and flaking.

Showering in chlorine-free water reduces fatigue and results in higher levels of energy and better health.
