Where can I find a better shower head?

Given the addictive nature of the spa industry and the competitive tendencies of affluent households, the widespread inclusion of elaborate shower heads in modern homes is no surprise.  After all, if the refrigerator can make ice and sprinklers operate themselves, why have I been massaging my wife's back like a sucker?  Growing ever more affordable, these once rare items of spotty quality are now reliable and commonplace. 

Take the basic shower head.  It clogs with calcium, shoots any way it pleases, and all without the slightest regard for energy consumption.  For less than 20 dollars, today's shower head can be build-up resistant, energy compliant, and offer settings ranging from soothing spray to painful pulsing.  A diligent search can land you great hand held shower heads for just over that same 20 dollars. 

Price is sometimes an indicator of quality

Lamentably, shower heads telegraph the price with their image.  Classy, gleaming shower fixtures can divert your guests' attention from the network of mildew decorating your tiles.  World class designers stamp their names on brushed nickel fixtures that look like throwbacks to the fifties but upon closer inspection definitely come from the future.  A team of bespectacled marketers determines names that best sell bathroom fixtures; The Barcelona, Clio, Regent, Sunflower Shower, or Earth Mover. 

They are right.  For though there are few effects that cannot be duplicated with a budget model, everyone would prefer the Regent II to your standard Deluxe Handheld Body Shower Massager.  The luxury of a dual or triple shower head system hardly bespeaks extravagant pampering when cased in white plastic.  Do it in antique bronze or chrome for genuine excess.  Alone, the nicer shower heads are within the grasp of the average consumer with financial priorities only slightly skewed.  The complete sets of designer bathroom fixtures are exclusive for those refurbishing their second or third Manhattan Condo. 

Perspective

Along with the outrageous prices of the high-end shower fixtures comes a lifetime warranty.  Though it would be nice to never have to worry about shower heads again, perhaps contributing the maximum to an IRA would provide even more comfort than aqua-gyrations.
