We use sinks for very basic tasks, such as washing our hands and rinsing off our cookware. If you're of a certain generation, you might even remember your mother washing clothes in the sink or even being bathed in the kitchen sink.
Traditionally, sinks were manufactured from extremely sturdy materials such as cast iron or enameled steel. The sink today, as an entire unit, typically refers to the basin (or sink), hot and cold faucets, and the drain.
Modern sinks are usually manufactured from stainless steel, making them both durable and easy to keep clean. Stainless steel is also much kinder when it comes to dropping a fragile wine glass or bowl, whereas the old cast iron sinks would almost certainly leave you with a shattered mess.
Besides stainless steel being used in modern sinks, many public bathrooms are now employing the use of automatic sinks for sanitary purposes. These touchless sinks feature automatic on and off features. See the articles below to learn more about sinks.
