Most likely, the toilet that is in your home is a traditional, gravity toilet. This is the most common toilet used in households around the globe today. A gravity toilet operates by storing water in the tank above the bowl until the handle is pushed and the water is released, thereby emptying waste into the sewage system and replacing it with clean water from the tank.
Although this design has not changed much over the years, upgrades have been made. Pressure-assisted toilets operate in much the same fashion as gravity toilets. However, pressure-assisted toilets make use of an inner water tank that is completely sealed off. The inner tank uses compressed air to force out the water instead of gravity. This offers a much more thorough cleaning of the toilet. Since this type of toilet uses pressure from the water line, there is no need for pumps or other devices.
