
After acquiring the Maytag Corporation on March 31, 2006, Whirlpool became the leading appliance maker in the world. Headquartered in Michigan, Whirlpool has manufacturing plants throughout the country. The majority of Whirlpool washing machines are manufactured in the Ohio plant in the city of Clyde. The plant produces about 20,000 washing machines a day, about 5 million a year. Although Whirlpool is, in fact, a global company, North America and Australia comprise most of its sales.
The term "whirlpool" also refers to what are more commonly known as Jacuzzis or hot tubs. Hot tubs are used for therapeutic purposes and relaxation purposes.
