It's curtains!
Aside from being much easier to clean than a plastic curtain, glass shower doors generally look better. The blurred or frosted effect of a glass shower door lends a graceful air to a bathroom compared to a mildewed duck collage of unknown origins. Unfortunately, if you have a bathtub and shower combination, doors are not often an option. For the sake of sanitation and ease in cleaning, you may want to install a simple shower pan in one of your bathrooms and install a door. A simple wipe with a squeegee prevents soap scum and bacteria quite well.
Hack science saves the day
Perhaps the greatest advantage of the glass shower door is permanent liberation from the Shower Curtain Effect. You've likely noticed the tendency for a shower curtain to draw inwards once water starts flowing. Amateurish attempts at solving this conundrum suggested the water temperature created different air pressures. Hot shower or cold shower, the Shower Curtain Effect remained a scientific enigma occasionally discussed in Scientific American magazine.
Enter David Schmidt of the University of Massachusetts, who, in 2001 used a computer model of a common bathroom to illustrate the horizontal vortex caused by shower use. In the center of the spray's conical trajectory is a low-pressure zone that generates a moderate vacuum. For his contribution in solving one of science's least sought after solutions, he was awarded a "Ig Nobel Prize" in Physics. The prize, presented by genuine Nobel laureates, is a mock Nobel Prize which clumsily puns off of "ignoble."
At what conclusion or solution do we arrive from this monumental discovery? Shower doors serve better than the shower curtain.
