How to find the right corporate ladder

Choosing the right ladder

What are the different ladders you can choose from? You may need a step ladder, telescoping ladder, extension ladder, or multipurpose ladder.

Questions you should ask yourself

Do you plan on doing electrical work?

Will you be lifting heavy loads like brick or roofing materials?

What kind of storage do you have available?

How high does the ladder need to go?

Addressing your needs

There are basically three types of ladders; extension ladders, step ladders and multipurpose ladders.

Extension ladders

An extension ladder usually consists of two equal size sections that can be extended to various heights. Extension ladders are usually for reaching the highest areas that a stepladder of equal height would just be to unwieldy to use.

Extension ladders from Werner Ladders usually come in lengths between 16 and 40-feet. They are usually made of aluminum or fiberglass. Aluminum ladders are very light and strong, which can be handy because of maneuverability.

Fiberglass ladders offer a few advantages that the aluminum ladder just can't. First, fiberglass ladders are non-conductive so electrical work is safe. Fiberglass ladders are also stronger that aluminum ladders, which makes a difference if you intend on carrying a lot of materials and equipment on the ladder. Make sure you check the type and weight rating of the ladder you purchase.

Step ladders

Stepladder doesn't just refer to the ladder in your kitchen that you use to get down soup cans. Stepladder refers to all A frame style ladders we use. Most stepladders range in size from 2 to 16-feet, but some rolling ladders can be quite bigger. There are many similarities between the manufacture of step and extension ladders. They use the same weight ratings and they are usually built of the same materials, excepting that some value priced ladders are made of wood.

Multipurpose ladders

These ladders share aspects of design with both step and extension ladders. They can be set up in both Step and Extension configurations while or in a small scaffold configuration. One manufacturer's, Gorilla Ladders, range in size between 13 to 20-feet.

Four articulated, or telescoping ladder, sections that are joined together with ratcheting joints facilitate the different configurations. These ladders can be quite convenient but they can be expensive as well. They are ideal for homes, condominiums and apartments with limited storage space.

These ladders can be heavy and are only made of aluminum.
