Christmas Bulletin Board Ideas

Enjoy a winter wonderland with these bulletin board decorating tips

With so many ways to decorate your classroom bulletin boards at Christmas time, it is hard to know where to begin.  It is best to start with a definite plan, because the last thing you want is just a hodgepodge of holiday images.

All inclusive

For public schools, it is best to avoid overtly religious symbols and instead keep the board neutral.  Some easily made ideas are snowflakes, snowmen, and candy canes.  Some of the following ideas would obviously be more appropriate for a private religious institution.  Always use your best judgment in an effort to include everyone in this joyous time of the year.

Gingerbread schoolhouse

It might be a bit too time-consuming to make an actual gingerbread version of your school, but without much trouble you can make a construction paper representation.  Let the image be as silly or cartoonish as you want, but take the time to include some of the recognizable aspects of your school.  Unveil creation while serving some gingerbread and milk to the kids.

The tree is the key

Make an easy green tree image as a background for your bulletin board and have your students make construction paper ornaments to decorate it.  Encourage each student to personalize their ornament as much as possible.

When all of the ornaments are up on the board, assign each one a number and have your students try to guess whose is whose.  Have a few small prizes for those who get the most right.

The first Noel

Use construction paper to recreate the nativity scene.  This one will take a bit more time than others, but it is worth it!  What better way to celebrate the Christmas season than with images from where and when it all began.  The manger, wise men, animals, and of course the guest of honor-they all remind us of what the time is about.

Equal time

Separate your bulletin board into equal sections for all of the holidays of the season.  Find images or cut representations out of construction paper.  Include some text on the meanings of each special time.

The time to give

A great way to get kids involved in the world and teach them about generosity is to hold a food or toy drive.  Create paper ornaments and give them out as prizes for donating items.  Watch as the board fills up with paper balls and stars with the kids' names on them.
