Computer Chair Price Guide

Compare and save on computer chairs

So you're tired of using that old straight-back chair from the kitchen and it's time for something new.  Shopping for a computer chair can be a frustrating experience.  With all of the different styles and offers, how can you know you are not paying too much?  Here is a quick breakdown of some popular styles.

Ergonomically sound seating

Of course price is an issue when purchasing any furniture, but comfort is also a huge factor.  Most people spend many hours per day at a desk.  You want to know that your chair is not causing any undue aching or fatigue.  Ergonomic chairs are designed with your body in mind.

High-end ergonomic chairs offer lower and upper back support, adjustable arm and seat height, and a tilt limiter.  They are some of the best chairs you can buy, but needless to say, you pay for this comfort.  Large leather or upholstered ergonomic chairs, such as those designed by Herman Miller or BodyBilt start at a few hundred and can run upwards of a thousand dollars.

This is a lot of money, yes, but keep in mind that it will be the only chair you need to buy for a long, long time.  Plus, think of all the money you'll save in chiropractic bills!

The back-saver

Originally conceived by Scandinavian medical professionals, the unusual Swivel Posture Chairs, referred to by the manufacturers as "The Computer User's Best Friends," help prevent back, neck, and shoulder pain.  A knee rest helps keep your posture at its best.  These computer chairs start at around $200 and run up to $300.

Traditional comfort

Moving away from the more high-tech designs, the Tamiri Leather Chair is one type of "Loop Arm" computer chairs.  These offer a good amount of back support.  The single-position tilt-lock control lets you secure a more upright position for typing, ensuring better posture and greater comfort.  Expect to pay around $300 for this or a similar model.

Discount computer chairs

For those on a budget (and who isn't?), there are plenty of companies and retailers offering deals on discount computer desk chairs.  These are often, but not always, the exact same chairs that are being sold at high-end shops for much more.  It is not too difficult to find a good leather task chair for between $100 and $150.

The basics

You can also find very simple and effective computer chairs for under $100.  You will not get the comfort or support that the higher end models offer, but if you shop around you should find one that feels right for you.  These are readily available at large retailers and wholesalers.
