It's such a small item, yet it plays such a big role in offices everywhere. Paper clips are an essential part of every office. Having changed very little from its original design, today's paper clips have achieved true perfection in regards to their specific purpose. The first recorded patent for the paper clip was filed by Samuel B. Fay of the United States in 1867. In the few years that followed, several other inventors patented their own paper clips designs. From those 19th century designs evolved what we now know as the modern paper clip.
As you may or may not know, paper clips come in many different sizes, styles, and colors. The larger sizes are of course used for holding bigger stacks of documents together and while you might think that colored paperclips are merely for fun, many people use them for color-coding purposes. Other modern variations of the common "loop" design lend toward the antiquated "gem" design of the original patent.
However you might use paper clips, their essential function remains the same. Be sure to click on the links below for more information about paperclips.
