How to make chaos a theory
The scientific concept of entropy states that everything in the universe is moving toward randomness and disorder. To which most office workers respond: duh. Take a photograph of your desk at 7AM Monday morning and another at 5PM the same day, and you'll see what entropy looks like firsthand. Desk organizers might seem like weird science, but they're a simple way to keep your work area from descending into chaos.
Paper
Paper is the number one culprit when talking about desktop clutter. There are a few different desk organizers that can address the paper problem. A multi-tiered paper organizer that fits on your desktop will keep important documents accessible and out of the way. Plastic paper organizers are inexpensive, or try a handsome beechwood or pine paper organizer for an extra stylish touch.
Hanging file folders also work well at keeping paper in your desk drawers instead of on your desktop.
Scissors
Stationary accessories such as pens, pencils, paper clips, tape, scissors, and post-it notes can sometimes be the hardest things to keep organized. A sliding drawer underdesk organizer is just the thing for making best use of your available space. You don't need to have deep pockets to use its deep pockets for storing your favorite stapler or calculator.
Creating storage space out of nothing can be one of the biggest appeals of using a desk organizer. Small mesh drawers, for example, can provide you with a multiple accessory storage system that's highly visible and accessible.
Rock?
If you're looking for a desk organizer that's dependable as a rock, there's a workplace secret you should know about, and it's called a valet stand. Valet stands are shaped sort of like small cash registers, with a bottom sliding drawer and glass cabinet top, and they can hold everything: paper, stationary items, electronic handheld devices, and personal items. Of course, having something called a valet stand might earn you some kidding from your coworkers, but only until they discover how convenient a tool it can be for desktop organizing. And if you're embarrassed, you can just call it a flip-top organizer.
Using the obvious
But not all desk organizers need to be so exotic. Paper clip cups, wastebaskets, and tape dispensers can all make a difference. A desk caddy is great for storing a large number of items in a small container. Letter trays and leather secretaries are old-fashioned but efficient desk organizing alternatives.
Entropy, then, is not so guaranteed after all. With a little patience and time to get used to your new desk organizers, that 5PM photo of your desk will be looking just like the 7AM photo.
