Almost identical in function to a large desktop computer, a laptop is a fraction of the size, and can be toted around virtually anywhere. Favored by working professionals and busy students, laptops allow users to carry their computer with them everywhere they go, and allow them to always be connected.

Modern laptops come with most of the components of desktop PCs, such as CD/DVD burners, sound cards to play music and video, comfortably-sized keyboards, network adapters to connect to the Internet, and powerful processors to perform nearly any task. Most laptops can be interfaced with other computers for added functionality.

Laptops use powerful batteries to stay charged for hours, without needing to be plugged into a wall outlet. This portability is what gives laptops their appeal; they can be used on planes, busses, in parks, at coffee shops - virtually anywhere.
