Subwoofers

Subwoofers are large speakers designed play low-frequency sound waves. These deep notes are so low in the audio spectrum that most regular speakers can't play them. A subwoofer can pump out these notes out ease, letting you hear elements of movies or music that you've never heard before.

Generally speaking, the larger the subwoofer, the louder and deeper the sound. Many car audio enthusiasts prefer smaller subwoofers, like 8-inch or 10-inch models. These smaller subs deliver accurate, punchy bass that's ideal for rock or rap music.

In the world of home theater, many people prefer 12-inch, or even 15-inch subwoofers, as they deliver ultra-deep, almost floor-rumbling bass. Remember, the moviemakers include these low-frequency notes in movies, but usually they go unheard because the majority of speakers can't play them. A subwoofer lets you experience movies just as if you were in a real theater. To learn more, check out these articles.
