Split your cash for great deals
A sectional couch can add a great deal of style and functionality to any room. Manufacturers offer the same variety of styles, designs and build materials as stand-alone sofas so there should be no problem finding a sectional sofa to fit your home.
However, the price can be daunting. To help weigh the costs of a sectional couch, as well as explain a few of the premium materials, here is a brief price guide.
The basics
A simple L-shaped sectional with foam cushions can be found at a price as little as $799. Extras like throw pillows and ottomans may be included, but at a price that low, it's likely that the retailer will charge extra.
Still, if requirements aren't too stringent, or if the sofa isn't meant to last long due to kids and pets, the lower quality, lower priced model may be a better value.
If quality is what you're after however, plan on doubling that price tag.
A similar sectional sofa, with better cushioning and a better quality upholstery can fetch prices well over $2000. The payoff, however, may be worth it.
With the hefty price tag comes a huge improvement in build quality, overall durability and a much more beautiful finish, overall.
For a u-shaped form factor, you are looking at a similar price range. Extra functions, such as that of a sectional sleeper sofa, shoots the price up an average of $500 - $700.
Build it and they will buy
Different materials certainly can alter the overall price of a sectional couch. Sectional sofa manufacturers provide a wide range of material types and varying qualities. Here are a few options and their price ranges:
Leather
There's nothing like the look and feel of leather. Perfect for a contemporary decor and ideal for the home theater. However, leather sectional sofas carry a heavy premium.
A cheap leather unit sets the range floor at $1,700, easily. Keep in mind this is for the bare minimum of material and build quality.
A proper leather sectional will fetch upwards of $4,000 and sometimes higher depending on the manufacturer.
Micro-Fiber
A relatively new type of upholstery, this synthetic fabric is a special polyester fiber, which is very fine denier (diameter), and extruded such that there are fine "slits" running the length of the fiber.
The result is a very soft, suede-like material. It's durable and, theoretically, spill- and stain-resistant. However, the aggressive absorbency of microfiber requires special cleaning that can be relatively involved.
Wicker
A wicker sectional sofa is a beautiful way to decorate an enclosed patio or sun room. Bring an island flavor to your home with this incredibly durable material that has been a staple of patio furniture for decades.
Wicker sectionals often come with water resistant cushions, making it perfect for semi-outdoor use. However, like all wicker furniture, real wicker carries a premium price tag.
A simple three-piece sectional can be found at an average of around $1,300, depending on the manufacturer and the size of the set.
