You may never get off the couch again!
A Plasma TV may lack the brightness of an LCD TV, slightly, or the well-rounded image accuracy of a CRT, but they have a cache that sets them apart. It may be that they can produce millions of separate colors. It could also be that there is warmth to the look of the seamless images that they display. For me though it is the fact that they use a distinct state of matter to produce images. Plasma is considered a forth state of matter after the more familiar solid, liquid and gas. Sounds pretty exotic huh? Actually, the technology goes back to the early sixties as far as display screens are concerned, well before that when you consider it is the same approach used to create neon lights.
Plasma I hardly knew ye
Originally developed by researchers at the University of Illinois, Plasma screens had a heyday throughout the seventies when they were used to make green, and sometimes orange, monochromatic monitors. I believe they are still used in university records offices, DMVs and other places where time seems to stand still. In 1997, the Pioneer Plasma TV was the first commercially available set.
Characteristics of Plasma TVs
Plasma TVs are unique in a number of different ways. One is that while you will not find a cheap Plasma TV, plasma becomes a more economical choice above 36". Plasma TVs should be considered while shopping for HDTVs for a number of reasons.
Built-in Line Doubler: this means your Plasma TV doubles the density of older standard television signals.
Widescreen Presentation: Plasma TVs have a theater like widescreen that is twice as wide as tall so it matches the ratio used in Cinemascope motion pictures.
Each pixel is lit individually which is in contrast to all other TV types
Plasma TVs have no scan lines or visible dots; as a result they are exceptionally rich in color, contrast and depth.
Your favorite electronics company makes one. Manufacturers of Plasma TVs include almost all of the top brands. Brands such as Panasonic, Sony, Pioneer, Philips, Samsung, Hitachi, Philips, JVC, Sharp, NEC, LG, Viewsonic and of course Zenith all make Plasma TVs.
You can also choose among a myriad of different Plasma TV wall mounts, stands and Plasma TV furniture. Plasma TVs give you a wealth of flexibility in how you decide to set up your home theater system.
