Previously known soley for its high-end audio and video components, Asian electronics company Sony couldn't have made a better decision when it decided to jump into the world of video game systems back in 1994.
The company's groundbreaking system, the Playstation, blew consumers away with its ultra-slick graphics and innovative controllers. Some credit Sony's financial backing into the project as one of its main reasons for succeeding, but video game fans were too busy being dazzled by the Playstation's unique game play to notice anything else.
Sony would eventually release a dizzying library of over 1,000 games throughout the coming decade before releasing the ultra-popular Playstation 2 console in 2000. The Playstation 2 raised the bar, introducing a whole new technology of video game graphics. Due out later this year, the Playstation 3 is anticipated to once again redefine contemporary video game technology.
