Educational Games for Kids

Free online educational sites for children

Free online educational games are the easy way to make learning fun for your children. For preschool and kindergarten age children there are free educational games that teach matching and analytical skills. And for older children, online educational games provide fun challenges in math, English, and science. Here are a few sites we recommend that provide educational games for kids.

Fun School

We like www.funschool.com as a free children's educational games resource for the sheer number of games it offers. The Fun School site map lists dozens and dozens of free educational games for kids, broken down by age (preschool to 5th & 6th grade) and type (arcade games and puzzle & board games).

The free educational games Fun School offers cover a great range of subjects. Even their free preschool games include unusual selections such as French opposites and Korean opposites along with the standard matching and coloring games.

Other distinctive educational games for kids include Super Hyper Spider Typer, Hand Talk, and Bird Watcher. As free educational game sites go, Fun School is easy to navigate and isn't overly heavy on advertising. We recommend it though primarily for its wide variety of educational games for kids.

Gamequarium

Gamequarium is another free educational games site loaded with dozens of children's games. Located at www.gamequarium.com, Gamequarium also provides free resources for parents and teachers, such as technology tutorials and freeware and shareware downloads.

The kid's educational games at Gamequarium include a category called Readquarium, which among other things includes a selection of book and author websites, synonyms, antonyms, prefixes, suffixes, and other word-related challenges.

For younger children, there are free educational games dealing with shapes, colors, and sounds, as well as audio stories and animated stories.

The page layout at Gamequarium is a little cluttered and the Big Bird yellow font can become a little headache inducing, but we also recommend their selection of educational games for kids.

Edheads

We like www.edheads.orga lot because it's one of the more unusual sites offering free educational games for kids. Instead of the usual mix and match or English games, Edheads offers children the chance to perform virtual hip surgery, or read essays by doctors or engineers about why they love their particular profession.

The educational games at Edheads also include sections dedicated to weather and machinery. But the virtual surgery section remains the most unusual, allowing gamers to decipher X-rays and choose prosthetics.

Edheads is probably not the best educational game source for young children, but if you have a budding young engineer or doctor or meteorologist in your family, they'll likely find Edheads interesting.
