All About Model Airplanes

Let your imagination soar

Let your imagination soar with model airplanes! Flight has always been a dream of man.  And it wasn't long after he achieved that dream that his desire to relive it with model airplanes was born.

A hobby is born

The hobby of building, collecting, and displaying model airplanes began in the 1930s, when flight itself was still in its infancy. Even though the rise of video games and other dynamic forms of entertainment in the 1980s led to the decline in popularity of many other traditional hobbies, the wonder and mystique associated with flying is alive and well.

Satisfaction of accomplishment

Building a model airplane can be a great accomplishment for your child.  Through building model airplanes, children learn patience and precision, not to mention the proud feeling they get from creating something with their own hands.  The hours of shared quality time between a parent and child who build a model airplane together is also a great accomplishment in this high-tech age.

A hobby for all ages

Model airplanes come in a wide variety of materials and construction styles suitable for all ages.   Whether you are just getting started, or want a more challenging model airplane to put together, there are many options to choose from.  Some styles include:

Plastic snap-together model airplanes are simple to assemble and are great for young children just getting started.

Metal die-cast model airplanes are for the advanced hobbyist or an older child who love the challenge of putting together a more detailed model airplane.

Stylized model airplanes are made of polished wood - often a rich mahogany - and are also more challenging to construct.  These model airplanes are generally used as decoration in a den or study.

Fun after assembly

Assembling a model airplane is only half the fun!  Once the glue has dried and authentic decals have been applied, you get to proudly display your model airplane for all to see.  Put it on a shelf or dresser or hang it from the ceiling to give the illusion of flight and let the imagination soar.
