Electronic Toy Lightsabers

Electronic toy lightsabers are perfect gifts for children young and old.

If avian flu or global warming plunged the earth into a sudden apocalypse, what would our new mythologies look like? Perhaps we could take a clue from the movie Reign of Fire. Living on a damaged earth besieged by dragons, actor Christian Bale entertains malnourished children by reenacting lightsaber battle scenes between Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker. Civilization may come and go, but electronic toy lightsabers will last forever.

The original toy lightsabers

Pity the Star Wars fans who were children when the first Star Wars movie came out in 1977. To reenact their favorite scenes, children had to make do with sticks in lieu of lightsabers, at least until their parents got them one of the original Star Wars toy lightsabers.

But even those original toy lightsabers were woeful things. Some were essentially flashlights with an attached inflatable blade, others were plastic and little different from a child's thin baseball bat. Worst of all, children of the 1970s had to make that distinctive lightsaber sound with their mouths.

Electronic toy lightsabers for kids

Those were the good old days, but batteries and technology have changed everything. Today, electronic toy lightsabers for kids come in multiple colors, feature different designs based on the weapons of particular Star Wars characters, and make numerous fighting sounds that enhance a child's play experience and make electronic toy lightsabers as authentic as possible.

Electronic toy lightsabers for kids needn't even be all that expensive. A Star Wars Revenge of the Sith electronic toy lightsaber Jedi-style sells for $19.99. This electronic toy lightsaber runs on two C batteries and glows just like the Jedi lightsabers in the movies.

But the motion and sounds are what make electronic toy lightsabers so popular. Pressing a button causes electronic toy lightsabers to extend out more than 3 feet, plus they sense motion and respond by making electronic sound effects from the Star Wars movies. And since they weight only about 4 pounds, electronic toy lightsabers are great for kids of nearly all ages.

Electronic toy lightsabers for adults

As for those unfortunate children who had to make do with plastic bats and taped-together paper towel rolls, they've become Star Wars memorabilia collectors, and few pieces of Star Wars memorabilia are as interesting as the Master Replica collection of Star Wars FX lightsabers.

At a cost of $100 or more, Star Wars FX lightsabers are more than just electronic toy lightsabers for adults. They're as realistic as it gets. Star Wars FX lightsabers feature 64 super-bright LEDs that provide power-up and power-down light effects, five motion sensor controlled digital sounds, a polycarbonate blade and metal hilt.

Of course the primary difference between an electronic toy lightsaber and a Star Wars FX lightsaber is that the latter are expensive collectibles and not really intended for life or death combat. But they’re also way cooler.
