Popular Action Figures

Marvel Comics and other popular action figure lines

The best action figures come with a story. That story could be a mythology or a fictional universe that has been crafted for years, as with Marvel Comics and Marvel action figures. Or it could be a series of books that have already captured the imagination of children and adults alike, as with Lord of the Rings action figures or Harry Potter action figures.

Marvel action figures

The Marvel Legends action figure line has been an essential part of action figure collections for years. Marvel action figures definitely come with a story. Not only do the Marvel characters have a legendary past, but Marvel Legends action figures also come with a trademark comic book detailing significant episodes in each character's history. Each Legends series of Marvel action figures includes select characters from the Marvel universe.

Toy Biz had been the company producing the Marvel Legends action figure line over the past decade, but Marvel has terminated that licensing agreement effective December 31, 2005. Marvel has taken over production of the Marvel Legends action figure line for 2006, and Hasbro will become the new licensee in 2007. How this transition will affect the design and distribution of Marvel action figures remains to be seen.

Halo action figures

Everyone is talking about video games such as Silent Hill and Resident Evil being adapted into movies, but video game to action figure adaptations are also hot. Halo action figures and Halo 2 action figures are some of the most popular action figures of the day.

The Halo 2 action figures series 4 features 5 highly articulated figures, including a Red Spartan, Elite Ranger, Marine Orbital Drop Shock Trooper, Banshee (with mini Elite figure), and Master Chief.

Jesus action figure

He may not have any weapons, but he definitely has a history. He's the 5-inch Jesus action figure. The Jesus action figure not only brings the thunder, he comes with moveable arms to reach toward the heavens and wheels in his base for smooth gliding action.

And if you're looking to play Jesus and Friends or just come up with a crazy idea for your own science fiction TV pilot, there are also novelty action figures of Moses, Sigmund Freud, Albert Einstein, Sherlock Holmes, and Shakespeare.

Female action figures

Not all action figures need be men. There are numerous female action figure lines available, drawing on such diverse sources as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Xena, Lara Croft Tomb Raider, Barbie, GI Jane, and Catwoman. Many of the most popular female action figures feature television characters such as Jennifer Garner from Alias or the cast of Charmed on the WB.

Lord of the Rings action figures

Just as the Star Wars movies spawned an industry of Star Wars action figures, Lord of the Rings action figures remain popular among fans of Tolkien's books and director Peter Jackson's movies. Collect from the entire trilogy, or center your Lord of the Rings action figure collection on characters from Fellowship, Two Towers, or Return of the King.
