Stainless Steel Cookie Sheets

Well, it's that old dilemma: do you buy something inexpensive, knowing that while it will have to be replaced sometime soon at least it won't set you back too much cash? Or do you invest in something high quality that will last a longer time? When it comes to buying a cookie sheet, the answers to those questions depend on a few different factors.

First, how often do you plan to use the sheet? Of course, the more use you are going to get out of it, the more it is worth dropping a bit more money on. If you are only going to use the sheet for the occasional store bought cookie dough and maybe a set of Shrinky Dinks, then the $3 sheet from the grocery store might be just fine.

Secondly, how much money do you want to invest in a pan, and how many other kitchen items do you need? For a college student, $30 is a lot of cash, but for a lot of other people, $25 or $30 is not a terribly huge amount of money. But even for those people, the money can add up quickly when you are outfitting a whole kitchen. Simply put: know your budget.

If you have decided it is best to spend a bit more, then consider a stainless steel cookie sheet. These cookie sheets are top of the line, gourmet quality sheets. They are heavy gauge steel that will not damage or dent easily. This is what the big time bakers and chefs use.

These sheets do not have a non-stick coating, so you will have to grease or spray the sheet. This is a plus in many serious bakers' minds: a general belief is that non-stick coatings can interfere with the taste of your foods.

A popular option in stainless steel cookie sheets is the flat edge. Having at least one flat side to the sheet allows you to slide your baked goods right off the pan and onto a cooling rack. Some sheets have three flat sides, leaving only one edge raised to allow for easier holding. The three flat sides are also thought to promote air circulation around the baking food and, thus, ensure more even cooking.

You may not use a cookie sheet every day, but when you do it is nice to have something of quality to pull out of the oven.
